Safety
Why paper trading should come before live trading automation
Paper trading is not just practice. It is the safest way to test alerts, broker mapping, quantity logic, and order lifecycle before live automation.
Paper trading is often treated as a beginner feature. In automated trading, it should be treated as a professional safety requirement. Before an alert controls a live account, the trader should prove that the signal format, strategy rules, broker connection, order type, and post-fill state all behave as expected.
Paper mode tests the whole workflow
A paper order can confirm more than whether a broker accepts an order. It tests the full operational path: alert delivery, authentication, parsing, duplicate protection, broker lookup, order submission, status polling, fill syncing, and reconciliation.
TradeLuma is built to make paper-mode testing part of the normal workflow. Traders can review what the platform received, what checks ran, and what happened after broker submission.
Live mode should require multiple gates
Live automation should not be enabled by one switch alone. A safer model requires user entitlement, broker connection approval, platform live controls, broker health, strategy permissions, and visible kill-switch behaviour.
TradeLuma separates paper and live execution paths so live-account routing can be controlled with explicit safety gates rather than being accidentally inherited from paper testing.
What to prove before live execution
Before live-account automation, the trader should test entries, exits, cancelled orders, partial fills where supported, manual close, duplicate alerts, disabled strategies, and broker session recovery. Bracket orders should be tested carefully because they involve parent and child order lifecycle behaviour.
Paper results are not a guarantee of live results, but they reduce preventable configuration mistakes before real capital is involved.
Frequently asked questions
Does paper trading remove all risk?
No. Paper trading helps test configuration and workflow behaviour, but live markets, liquidity, slippage, broker rules, and account conditions can differ.
Can users stay paper-only?
Yes. Paper-only workflows are useful for strategy testing, education, and operational rehearsal without live broker execution.
